Welcome to the Children’s Clinic!

Why is confidence & so important?

Confidence aids us in taking on more challenging experiences and not shy away from things that maybe be a little uncomfortable. Confidence will help your child stand taller, learn to speak up more often and become more assertive. It teaches resilience to stand back up when things don’t quite work out. Helping maintain a healthier mental mindset, improving relationships and support with decision making.

How the therapeutic relationship works

As your child’s therapist or coach, the relationship between myself and your child will:

Be confidential – your child is allowed to experience a unique relationship without having fear of upsetting mum and dad

Be safe – during our sessions, I will create an environment in which your child feels free to act and talk

Be authentic – natural and spontaneous interplay between myself and your child, Include a connecting link between your child’s world and my own awareness of your child’s values, beliefs and attitudes.

Be playful – engage in a way that allows your child to laugh, use imagination and build inner resources.

Be non-intrusive – I will join with your child in a way that is comfortable for them, whilst recognising that any questioning and inquiry needs to be undertaken with care.

Be purposeful – your child should clearly understand the reason for seeing me, whilst therapeutic methods are selected and used to achieve the therapeutic goal.

Children’s Clinic Confidentiality & Disclosure

When working with children, a different level of confidentiality is required, so that your child feels safe enough to share very private thoughts and emotions. It is important that to understand confidentiality and its limits at the start of therapy.

Inevitably, there will be situations that may require the breaking of this confidentiality – for example if your child discloses information revealing an experience of abuse. In these instances I will share this information with the appropriate authorities. Under these circumstances it is necessary to:

Deal with the your child’s anxieties about the disclosure.

Explore the positive and negative consequences of disclosure.

Take steps that will minimise any negative aspects of disclosure that could impact on your child.

Children usually agree to the sharing of such information with others if they think positive changes will occur as a consequence.

Give your child as much control as is possible over how and when this information is shared.
