Compassion Focused Therapy
Compassion-focused therapy is a type of psychotherapy, that integrates techniques from CBT with concepts from evolutionary psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, Buddhist psychology, and neuroscience.
CFT helps us understand how much of what we are has little to do with our own choices and a lot to do with circumstances and the world we are born into. When one stops blaming self and others a whole new world of insight happens.
CFT is especially helpful for those who have high levels of shame and self-criticism. One reason for such difficulties is that you may not have developed the ability to experience positive emotions such as safety, reassurance, and compassion. Sometimes this can come from abusive/bullying, neglectful, and/or critical backgrounds. Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is a beautiful approach for those who find it difficult to stimulate certain types of positive emotions, like self-acceptance and compassion.
CFT is applied in each session to encourage understanding and insight. Much of the time, the problem is never really the problem and what we really need is to develop compassionate understanding & love.

Polyvagul Trauma Informed Therapy
Polyvagal Therapy applies neurophysiology to support safety & connection.
This approach is particularly helpful if you have trouble with emotional regulation. A polyvagal approach to therapy is based on the knowledge that the autonomic nervous system is shaped by early experience and reshaped with ongoing experience.
Within polyvagal work, habitual patterns can be interrupted and new patterns can be created to help with emotional regulation that is maladaptive or mismatched leaving you feeling “stuck”, perhaps overthinking and overreacting in constant “fight or flight”, many experiences, feeling out of sync, alarmed, anxious, hyper-vigilant, sacrificing social engagement for survival.
When the problem or situation cannot be resolved, depression may set in activating a dorsal response trying to conserve energy. You may find yourself feeling immobilized, shutting down, collapsing, feeling foggy and numb.
After we have stabilized we will begin mapping your nervous system. Polyvagal Therapy is then applied safely in most sessions once stabilization has been achieved. Clients will begin to safely embody & connect with self, others, the world, and spirit.

Meditative Therapy
The integration of meditative practices and psychotherapy.
In meditative therapy, we first use meditation and yogic breathing to quiet and focus the mind. Once the nervous system is regulated, we let the mind and body guide us to insight and calmness. It’s an approach know as ‘heart-centred’ therapy, where the patient is encouraged to talk before quietening the mind to find stillness.
Meditative therapy is most suitable for those who are looking for a more spiritual approach to inner development, self-enquiry, and awakening to inner purpose and fulfilment.

CBT & CBH
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is one of several “talking treatments”, but unlike some other such methods, it focuses on positively changing your view of the problems or difficulties that are affecting you now. Rather than focussing on the causes of your distress or symptoms from the past, CBT teaches you ways to improve your state of mind now and in the future.
CBT can help you to change how you think (the “Cognitive” part) and what you do (the “Behavioural” bit). When put into practice these changes can help you to reconsider how you think about yourself, the world and other people, and understand how what you do affects your thoughts and feelings.
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is a process where healthy and unhealthy beliefs are identified, disputed – and then in trance state, weakened or strengthened. The weakening and strengthening process continues through the application of relevant homework assignment.
CBH is a very effective, solution-focused integrative therapy that uses elements of CBT and REBT with hypnotherapy. CBH places attention and deals with client’s present issues, currently held beliefs, painful emotions, dysfunctional behaviours and helps to create a much better way of thinking ,acting and handling everyday challenges.

REBT
Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy is a short-term form of psychotherapy that helps patients identify self-defeating thoughts and feelings, challenge the rationality of those feelings, and replace them with healthier and more productive beliefs.
REBT works on the deeper root cause rather than looking at events. When integrated with CBT and hypnotherapy, it becomes a very powerful way to work with more serious emotional and psychological problems and disorders. This model is designed to work over far fewer sessions than CBT alone.

EFT
Emotional Freedom Technique is a form of counselling intervention that draws on various theories of alternative medicine, including acupuncture, neuro-linguistic programming and energy medicine.
ETF is a form of hypnosis, without being induced in a wakened state. It is a method for safely releasing unwanted, negative or painful emotions, thoughts and feelings – such as sadness, anxiety, fear, anger, guilt, shame, hurt, grief or bitterness.
EFT removes the emotional intensity associated with anxiety, fears and phobias, and is used to ‘neutralise’ unpleasant or traumatic memories.

Sonia will definitely help you to become more mindful. Great session!”

What Is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is a profound inner space; a place to discover oneself. It offers an altered state of mind that bypasses our critical thinking factors, and as we bypass this part of the brain, we gain access to the subconscious, where millions of bits of information are stored, including memory, feelings, the body’s ability to breath, move and function – essentially everything that we do that’s automatic. We are in and out of this state all day long, when we watch TV, read a book, daydream…
Hypnotherapy is therefore a form of psychotherapy; where counselling skills are used, a full case history is taken, a rapport or therapeutic alliance established, problems and goals defined, misconceptions dealt with, and therapeutic strategies (for both the hypnosis and non-hypnosis part of the session) discussed and agreed.
Integrative Hypnotherapy is performed by myself: a qualified practitioner who applies various approaches in an integrative and sometimes eclectic way, drawing upon the broad spectrum of psychotherapeutic philosophies and treatments.
I am trained in many therapies and approaches, but I tend to use Rational Emotive Therapy (REBT): a form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). When integrated with hypnotherapy, it becomes a very powerful way to work with more complex emotional issues, psychological problems and disorders. This model is designed to work with fewer sessions in comparison to the standard CBT. Please click here to see more of my approaches.

How I Work
I work from a four-stage problem-solving process:
Stage 1. Even if you may not know what the problem is, we will spend a good amount of time taking a full case history, discovering what resources you have and how to help.
Stage 2. You might know what the problem is, but you don’t know what to do. As we know, many people can end up for in therapy for years on stage 2, knowing what their issues are, yet unable to move forward. I work in a solution-focused way setting SMART achievable goals, so you can make better progress in a shorter amount of time.
Stage 3. We’ll figure out a treatment to get you to your goal, based on our agreed treatment plan. I generally work within an evidence-based framework which helps us to find the best therapeutic treatments and techniques, helping to align us as hypnotherapists and other healthcare professionals.
Stage 4. We get to the GOAL, and integrate the new wanted behaviours into your life!
You can find out more about how I work, here – and explore the different issues with which I can help, here.

“My very first therapy session with Sonia was incredible. I was left with tears of joy…I had never experienced anything like it before. It was like I touched something deep inside that needed freeing and I felt a deep sense of love and gratitude. I have had so many realisations about my life and such clarity over the course of treatment. Her voice is very gentle and tender, you can just trust her and feel safe in her presence.
All of my sessions have been online, I have been doing a form of CBT with Hypnotherapy for the past few months and have found it to be very powerful. I have seen huge changes in my life. I am not so hard on myself and finally feel some real self-acceptance and made some career changes in my 60’s! I’m finally doing what I love and really believing in myself. I never thought in a million years I could change so much, so late in life. It’s been incredible to learn new things at my age. I know understand my worth and my sessions have been worth every penny!”

After working with Sonia I felt empowered to break free from the trauma and cycles I constantly found myself on. It was nothing short of a shift from always surviving to actually thriving, and I became the person I always wanted to be.”
